Gmail has become one of the e-mail services online more popular in the world. However, in its standard function is uncertain.
At the Defcon conference held recently in Las Vegas, USA, revealed what may be unsafe to use Gmail to the standard configuration.
The reason is that Gmail works with non-encrypted sessions. This means that users review their Gmail e-mail in a cybercafe are exposed to an intruder obtains its information from beginning sessions, ie username and password. By gaining access to the account it is possible to obtain additional information stored by the user in the same post or in the calendar.
However, the topic is easy solution because the Google service adds support for SSL type. It is for the user to activate the role, using the following procedure:
Connect to your Gmail account.
Click on the link "settings"
In the first tab (overall) advance to find text "browser connection" and select "always use https"
From now on, all traffic through your Gmail account will be encrypted (remember connect via
https://gmail.google.com). The system will be secure and the user will only be sacrificing a minimum performance due to the encryption procedure.
